Pistorius sees no need to restore conscription if current course continues

Defence Minister Boris Pistorius said he was confident the Bundeswehr could meet its staffing needs in future without bringing back conscription. The measures in the new military service modernisation law are working, he said; the force now has about 190,000 service members, its highest number in 13 years. If the current course continues, he said, the Bundeswehr would have no staffing problems and there would be no need to discuss conscription.

Pistorius also announced new efforts to recruit more women into the Bundeswehr.
