Saxony-Anhalt must replace 22 East German-era bridges

Saxony-Anhalt must replace 22 East German-era prestressed-concrete bridges over the medium term. Most were built in the 1970s and are similar in design to Dresden’s Carolabrücke, which partially collapsed in September 2024.

There is reportedly no immediate danger at any of the 22 structures, and all remain largely open to public traffic without restrictions.

The state is investing €85 million in ongoing and planned bridge replacements, including €53 million for the Mulde bridge near Pouch.
