Housing benefit reform could cut support for a third of current recipients

The Federal Ministry for Housing estimates that one third of households currently receiving housing benefit will lose the support after the reform. Plans include suspending the scheduled housing benefit increase on January 1, 2027, and halving the heating cost component.

The government expects to save nearly 1.2 billion euros in 2027 and nearly 1.5 billion euros a year in subsequent years.
