Dobrindt defends remarks after riots

Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt rejected criticism of his remarks, including comments about perpetrators’ migrant backgrounds.

Tens of thousands initially protested largely peacefully across Germany on Saturday, according to authorities. Riots followed in cities including Frankfurt am Main, Cologne, Berlin and Hamburg.

Britta Haßelmann accused Dobrindt of sending a message of division and rejection. The GdP police union, however, defended his remarks.
