Bilger seeks nationwide rollout of phone-detection cameras

German Transport Minister Steffen Bilger (CDU) wants to push for a nationwide rollout of cameras that detect mobile phone use at the wheel. The technology is currently used only in Rhineland-Palatinate.

Bilger says a provision in the Road Traffic Act is needed for a uniform nationwide approach. Trained police officers assess the images captured by the cameras.
