Hubig proposes tougher sexual offence laws in Germany

German Justice Minister Stefanie Hubig has presented draft legislation to toughen sexual offence laws. Sexual harassment through intimidating or pressuring words or gestures would carry up to one year in prison or a fine.

The draft proposes a uniform 20-year limitation period for rape and sexual assaults committed jointly.

Federal states and associations can comment until 30 November. The federal cabinet must then consider the proposal.
