First redesigned S-Bahn train enters service in Frankfurt

Frankfurt’s first redesigned S-Bahn train is in service and will initially run on line S4. Around half of all S-Bahn trains in the Rhine-Main region will be redesigned.

The redesigned trains have no first class, providing more space for boarding and alighting. According to RMV and DB, the redesign allows each train to carry 15 percent more passengers. Completion of the modernization is planned for summer 2029.
