DPolG seeks minimum one-year prison term for breach of the peace

The German police union DPolG wants breach of the peace classified as a felony. It seeks a minimum one-year prison sentence for participating in violent unrest, attacking police officers, looting or setting fires. The union expects legislative action before the end of this year.

It also wants suspects in serious rioting and looting cases to remain in pretrial detention until criminal proceedings conclude.
